Collective Worship

At Holy Family, collective worship forms an integral part of our school day, and is at the heart of the school's life and identity. True encounter with Jesus Christ takes place each every day, when we to pray together each morning, at lunchtime and before the end of the day. We take this time to thank God for our abundantly rich lives; we ask for his forgiveness for things that may have gone wrong and we ask for his unending love and support in all aspects of our lives. This is a time of age-appropriate reflection and contemplation, where children engage with reverence and joy.

During the school week, we also gather together in larger groups for collective worship. This may take the form of assemblies, Celebration of the Word, Songs of Praise, liturgies or Mass with Father Tony, either here in school or at Holy Family Church, which is only a short walk away. We are very lucky to have a parish priest, and supporting parish worker, who are committed to supporting staff and children in their understanding of God and our Catholicism. Our Mission Team play a vital role in leading many aspects of collective worship in school. This group, formed by children from Year 6, take responsibility for leading prayer and liturgies, as well as helping to organise our regular Masses. The children have real and valued input into the form that our worship takes, giving ownership to them and developing their own understanding of the part that worship and prayer plays in our lives.

All other pupils are also active in planning and leading worship with growing independence, creativity and theological understanding, showing increasing confidence in proclaiming the Word of God.

Our school is enriched by the diverse experiences and breadth of perspectives that the variety of cultural backgrounds and religious traditions of our community bring, and the respectful recognition of the common humanity which we all share is the foundation of our life together. Times of prayer in school provide a space for all to reflect on their spiritual journey, and be encouraged to live lives in the service of others; our school is authentically inclusive as collective worship here inspires spiritual growth and a love of prayer and reflection. It strengthens relationships, promotes unity, and ensures that all members of the school can encounter Christ in a meaningful and personal way.
