SPRING TERM                                 NEWSLETTER No.19                     Friday 3rd February 2012

Dear Parents,

PRAYERS
We ask your prayers for the repose of the soul of Ella and Delphine Dickson’s granddad, and for the family at this very sad time for them. Thank you.

ATTENDANCE
A child’s attendance, in line with Government regulations, should not be less than 95%. Our attendance records are regularly checked by the Slough Local Authority (LA) attendance officer who comes into school; the LA can also download our records at any time and check a child’s attendance.   For your information we will be sending letters after half term to parents of children whose attendance is at this time less than 95%. Any parent who would then like to discuss their child’s attendance may make an appointment and come in to see me.

PTA
In the book bags today please look out for a letter from the PTA which informs you about our proposals to provide a new soft surface for the trim trail. Thank you. Graham Tucker

BERKSHIRE INDOOR ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
We were competing for the first time in the Berkshire Indoor Athletics Championships – which is for the Athletics Clubs across Berkshire as well as the schools. However, only one other school took part so the standard of competition was high. The children had a great time and put in some excellent performance, with both the girls and the boys teams coming a very respectable 7th out of 12. We are all looking forward to the cross country this term and athletics this summer. Well done to the following: Liam Mackay, George D’Amaro-Field, Ben Greenidge, Aaron Amponsah, Donald Simbo, Alex Pleace, Zoe Chambara, Ruth Amponsah, Adele O’Reilly, Sasha Southgate and Toni Famakin.

GIRLS NETBALL – YEAR 5 & 6
The girls had an excellent result on Tuesday beating Ryvers School 2-1 in the Slough Netball League. Yet again the girls played some exciting netball (against a team that had 3 boys). With goals hard to come, by they managed to score enough to win. Great effort Sasha Southgate, Adele O’Reilly, Hannah Monaighan, Toni Famakin, Ciara Brennan, Oluchi Ugochukwu, Erin Oakes and Abbe Lowe. Well done!

MISS CASWELL’S ASSEMBLY
Thank you very much Miss Caswell and Year 4 for a lovely assembly all about thanksgiving. You presented us with an excellent reminder about our many blessings and how important it is to say thank you. You also beat a noisy cupboard with your clear voices at just the right volume. Well done … and thank you!

ROAD SAFETY
Do take care in our slip roads: recently a parent and child were almost hit by a resident’s car that was reversing out. Because it’s not a main road we can easily be lulled into a false sense of security and not take as much as care as we need to.

PIANO FOR SALE
The piano in the music room is no longer used (as I now have a lovely modern electric one!) and is taking up valuable space. If anyone is interested in buying it (£100 ono – donation to school funds) please let school know as soon as possible or it will be disposed of. It is in excellent order and has been regularly tuned. You will need to organise its transportation – it just needs a loving new home! Thank you. Barbara McNeillie.

SCHOOL CLOSED
Don’t forget we have a staff training day on Thursday 9th February and school will be closed to children. We will be joining Mrs Blount’s school, St Peter’s in Burnham, to become even better teachers at Holy Family! School is open as usual on Friday, when we break for half term.

God Bless

Anne O’Connor
