Literacy/Writing (Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation)

In Foundation and Key Stage 1, writing and letter formation is taught daily through the Read Write Inc session where children will ‘capture’ a word or sentence using their growing phonic knowledge.  They begin by composing their own sentences aloud before writing and checking their sentences make sense once they have got it down on paper.  By Key Stage 2, in Holy Family, the children are taught how to plan, draft and structure their writing, evaluating and editing their composition to ensure they have communicated effectively.  Through brainstorming adventurous words and exposure to a rich variety of texts, the children can incorporate or ‘magpie’ exciting vocabulary.

Our intention at Holy Family is that every child is a confident communicator both orally and on paper.
