French

Modern languages are taught by a specialist teacher in Key Stage 2.  At Holy Family the children learn how to listen attentively in French and show their understanding by joining in and responding.  They are encouraged to explore the patterns and sounds of language initially through songs and rhymes which link spelling, sound and the meaning of words.  In Key Stage 2, the children will learn how to converse, express opinions and respond to others, developing accurate pronunciation and intonation.  By the end of their time at Holy Family, the children will write phrases from memory and create new ones, understand basic grammar including conjugation of verbs and feminine and masculine forms of nouns, and to describe people, places, action and things orally and in writing.
